Don José María was born in Concepción on March 25, 1799 and at the age of 12 he enlisted as a cadet in the ´´los Dragones´´ regiment, two years later he was standard bearer of the Hussars of the Great Guard for which he fought in Chillán. He served as O'Higgins' assistant in all subsequent campaigns.
During the reconquest, in Mendoza he was an Instructor Officer of the Army of Los Andes. He fought in Chacabuco and was later promoted to Captain and assigned to the Arauco infantry battalion. Leading the Regiment of Hunters of the Directorial escort (which replaced the Arauco regiment) he fought in Cancha Rayada and Maipú, after which he was appointed Major. O'Higgins decorated him with the Legion of Merit, and then when he abdicated he was commander of his bodyguard.
He retired from the Army, but returned to the ranks in the revolution of 1829. He was appointed by Portales as Minister of War in 1830.
He was Chief of the General Staff and participated in the war against the Peruvian Bolivian Confederation, directing the site of Callao. Returned to Chile, he was appointed Mayor of Valparaíso and Commander General of the navy by President Bulnes.
In 1847 it happened to the Intendancy of Concepción. In 1951, while in Concepción, he was a candidate for the Republic, opposing the centralism of Manuel Montt. In this same period he led a revolutionary effort, but was defeated by Bulnes at Loncomilla (December 8, 1851).

It can be reached from Chillán to the southwest by Route 5 South, it is 15 km., And then to the west by Route 152. In total there are 112 km. on asphalt road.
It can be reached from Los Angeles to the north by Route 5 south to the town of Cabrero and from there to the northwest. In total there are 130 km. on asphalt road.
By bus
Buses leave every 1 hour from the main terminals in Santiago, the trip takes 6 hours. From regions there are daily departures, you should check with the respective road terminals.
It was declared a National Monument in 1987
This mausoleum was erected in 1879, making it one of the oldest in the Museo de Concepción. It also preserves the remains of General José María de la Cruz Prieto, who was an outstanding man at arms, who among others contributed much to the country's Independence campaigns.
