The Mother Church of Gois was built in 1415, however, the one that today presents itself underwent several works during the centuries. It functioned at the beginning as collegiate seat through a contract made by the then prior Fernão Gil and the Lord of the settlement Estevão Vasques de Pedra Alçada.
The Pantheon and the Earthquake
It was the second quarter of the sixteenth century, the Count of Sortelha and Lord of Gois, D. Luís da Silveira, came to settle in the village. He decided to renovate the temple, in particular the chancel where he intended to make the pantheon of the Silveira Family, ending in 1531.
The Igreja Matriz de Góis is built on a rectangular plan formed by a single nave and main chapel.
